A thicker blade for roughout work and a nice point for larger detail work. Good for stop cuts, flat plane carving and general roughing out of the carving. We have had a lot of people say they use this 1-1/4" carving knife for chip carving, even though that was not its original purpose. The "Detail Roughout Carver" is one of our carving knives of choice for the beginner wood carver. These wood carving knives come to you sharp and ready to use.

Knife Handle Length: Handles are approximately 5 1/4" in length. This does vary due to the fact that all the handles are handmade. There may be slight variations in the size and shape.
Handle Material: Each handle is created out of North American hardwood. We do our best to find a highly figured piece of wood for each figured handle. The wood shown in the photo may not be the same handle material you receive.
Blade Material: Our wood carving knives are individually forged from W1 tool steel, the benefit of this kind of steel is that it produces a nice hardness that can be easily sharpened and stay sharp for a long time.

Tang Length:

1 1/2"

Steel Dia:

5/16"

How We Make Carving Knives - Video

PLEASE remember you are ordering a hand made knife, not something stamped out by a machine. As with any handmade item there are differences in the exact construction, therefore the knife may vary slightly from the photos shown. The wood handle you see in the photo may not be the exact color and figure pattern you receive. Photo may not be actual size, please refer to given dimensions.
Our blades have a near mirror finish. This allows the blade move through the wood smoothly. There may be tooling marks still on the blade which do not affect the performance of the knife.
Each knife is individually made and we make every effort to get your knife in the mail within 10 working days, this allows 4 days for shipping. So approximately 2 weeks, give or take a day or two. Please feel free to ask any questions before ordering: Send Us an Email

I love these knives

These are the best knives I've used in 27 years of carving, I came back to buy more they're so good. Beats helvie and drake with ease and look beautiful and unique. You will not regret buying from them. They're fast, honest and hard working. America!

Carving knife

I love the knife from Deep Woods. This makes 3 deep woods knives and all of them are extremely sharp out of the box. They sharpen up easily and keep the edge for a good while. I will be buying another one soon.

Detail Roughout Carver

Excellent through hardwood such as cherry, cedar and oak. Holds an amazing edge and is easily stropped to razor sharp. Excellent quality, I am very impressed with it. Compared to what I had purchased prior to buying from Deepwoods Venture, this knife is definitely worth the money. I will be buying more knives from Deepwoods Venture!!

Love it

I haven't done any carving in years and wanted something nice to start with. I did research and stumbled onto these knives and after a few days of having it in my hands I ordered more. I started with the 1-3/4 detail and it was just so nice, light, and comfortable that the piece of wood I tested it out on just became a sacrifice as I was enjoying how easy it was to cut. You just can't beat the price for the quality you receive.

Sharp and Durable

I'm addicted to these knives. I ordered the two inch which is huge but it can take off the wood fast. The 1 3/4 is my favorite size right now. I do all carving with it, even detail. The smaller sizes are super safe so I sent those to my ten year old granddaughter but I have used those as well. All are sharp and durable!
