The smaller diameter of the steel on this blades makes for a very sturdy yet great detail knife. We stretched out the length to make it "slim" with a nice long point. This knife will serve you well when carving tight spaces, but also a good all around general carving knife. A good addition to any carvers tool bag.

I bought both blade shapes in slim profile and they are excellent for fine details but also can remove a surprising amount of wood. highly recommend.

Knife Handle Length: Handles are approximately 5-1/4" in length. This does vary due to the fact that all the handles are handmade. There may be slight variations in the size and shape.
Handle Material: Each handle is created out of North American hardwood. We do our best to find a highly figured piece of wood for each figured handle. The wood shown in the photo may not be the same handle material you receive.
Blade Material: Our wood carving knives are individually forged from W1 tool steel, the benefit of this kind of steel is that it produces a nice hardness that can be easily sharpened and stay sharp for a long time.

      PLEASE remember you are ordering a hand made knife, not something stamped out by a machine. As with any handmade item there are differences in the exact construction, therefore the knife may vary slightly from the photos shown. The wood handle you see in the photo may not be the exact color and figure pattern you receive. Photo may not be actual size, please refer to given dimensions.
      Our blades have a near mirror finish. This allows the blade move through the wood smoothly. There may be tooling marks still on the blade which do not affect the performance of the knife.

Slim Scalpel Carver

I bought the 1 1/2" slim scalpel straight edge w/tiger maple handle. First impression, Wow! Wow! Beautiful blade, Beautiful handle (tiger maple, highly recommended). I wanted a hand forged blade, and this definitely scratched that itch...this is gorgeous! In term of a review, this is not a thin, fine detail blade, it is robust and strong, I use it fearlessly, that said, it probably won't serve well as you finest blade if you do detail work, but for most of my carving, this blade plus a fine detail blade will serve you well. Quality and value are elite, the line is growing, I suggest you add DWV to your short list.

My new favorite knife maker!

My slim scalpel carver arrived in two weeks as promised. The tiger maple handle is beautiful. When in hand, the handle seemed a little thin. Something I got used to quickly, and I find it quite comfortable to use. As much as I like the handle, the star of the show is the blade. It's thinner than I expected and comes to a very sharp point. It goes through basswood like it's a potato. Very sharp! I find the 1.5-inch blade to be very versatile. I like it so well that I've ordered another one with a shorter blade for fine detail work. I'm pleased with my purchase, and I highly recommend Deep Woods Venture knives.

Shipping schedule:
Each knife is individually made and we make every effort to get your knife in the mail within 10 working days, this allows 4 days for shipping. So approximately 2 weeks, give or take a day or two. If you feel your order is taking too long, please feel free to ask. We will be glad to let you know the progress of your order.

All our knives are shipped through the US Postal Service. If our would like to use a different carrier please email us for shipping costs.

All U.S. orders: flat rate of $6.95 for orders under $125.00
We ship using USPS, if you would like it to ship via a different carrier please contact us for cost.

All Canadian orders: flat rate of $29.96 for all orders. Customer is responsible for any additional import/duty taxes. Yes we realize this is expensive and I wish we could make it less expensive. Orders can take 7-25 days to arrive after they have shipped so please be patient. 
We ship using USPS first class mail, if you would like it to ship via a different carrier please contact us for cost.

All orders outside the U.S. and Canada: We do not ship direct to customers outside of the U.S. and Canada. If you are located outside of the U.S. You may want to use a forwarding company. We have had many customers use this option with great success. Here are a few choices: Shipito, Shipittous, Forward2Me, Reship - these are just a few options. Do your research for one that fits you best.
     If you choose to order, please note you may be responsible for extra shipping charges, VAT and customs in your country and through the shipping company you choose.
