Great for any project where you need to scoop out a surface like spoons or bowls. Allows for a more aggressive curve than a straight knife. Sharpened on one edge - hollow ground. The Skinny Sloyd or the General Roughout Carver makes a great addition to this knife for your spoon carving tool bag.
Flat ground is available, just ask or leave comment at checkout.

By far the best tool in my bag aside from the twca cam also purchased from here! Tools hold an edge much longer than any others I've had! Just great reliable tools!
|Knife Handle Length:
|Handles are approximately 6" or 8" in length. This does vary due to the fact that all the handles are handmade. There may be slight variations in the size and shape.
|Each handle is created out of North American hardwood. The wood shown in the photo may not be the same wood speicies you receive.
|Our wood carving knives are individually forged from W1 tool steel, the benefit of this kind of steel is that it produces a nice hardness that can be easily sharpened and stay sharp for a long time.
How to Sharpen Spoon Hook Knives - Hollow Ground or Flat Ground
The first half shows how to sharpen a hollow ground blade and the last half shows how to sharpen a flat ground blade.
RIGHT HANDED: Order “right handed” if you draw or PULL the knife towards your body with your RIGHT hand or PUSH away from your body with the LEFT hand to carve.
LEFT HANDED: Order “left handed” if you draw or PULL the knife towards your body with your LEFT hand or PUSH away from your body with the RIGHT hand to carve. These wood carving knives come to you sharp and ready to use.
PLEASE remember you are ordering a hand made knife, not something stamped out by a machine. As with any handmade item there are differences in the exact construction, therefore the knife may vary slightly from the photos shown. The wood handle you see in the photo may not be the exact color and figure pattern you receive. Photo may not be actual size, please refer to given dimensions.
Our blades have a near mirror finish. This allows the blade to move through the wood smoothly. There may be tooling marks still on the blade which do not affect the performance of the knife.
Each knife is individually made and we make every effort to get your knife in the mail within 10 working days, this allows 4 days for shipping. So approximately 2 weeks, give or take a day or two. Please feel free to ask any questions before ordering: Send Us an Email
I have been carving on a fruit wood project needing a spoon knife. I am not well rehearsed in spoon carving. This knife has some certain forgiveness in a slight mishap, the edge is retained with no gouges, pits or chips off the blade edge. This project did not start out with a spoon knife, but with several drill holes. Hmm, experienced spoon carvers may chuckle. I am not starting out, without a good edge. My experience with wood carving has brought to me the pleasurable experience to know a good carving edge and there are many. Deepwoods Ventures has knives and blades that do things no other blade does as well. I have my favorite knives and gouges, Deepwoods Ventures is always now in my tool roll. I am excited to try more blades as time is available. I am anxious for new applications.
Great quality steal, polished edge, nice curved, and ready for a personal handle. Purchased the Bit only.
I have purchased all three sizes of spoon hook knives and a 2 inch mini sloyd, all unhandled and they are wonderful. They take an edge and hold it well and are ground perfectly. I also have a 50mm twca cam I recently purchased and while the fit and finish of it is wonderful the grind on the inside is uneven and makes sharpening very difficult. The radius of the none sharp side seems not to match that of the cutting edge. I have had to manually grind with sand paper to resolve the issue. Overall I am very happy with the knives and understand that a hand made product can have minor discrepancies
I ordered a shallow spoon knife. I'm new to this type of carving. Carving some kuksa cups and some spoons. I have been impressed with the quality of the knife and if I need another I think I would order from you again. I'm enjoying trying a different kind of carving.
New to this style of woodworking. Made my own handle. Very nice product. Pretty sharp on arrival. Will buy more from here as I was impressed!
